President Applauds Maldives Immigration on 75 Years of Service

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has extended heartfelt commendation to the staff of Maldives Immigration, recognising their indispensable contributions to national service as the agency celebrates its 75th anniversary. The immigration authority celebrates its anniversary on 24 March.

The president, in a statement shared via social media, expressed profound gratitude to the agency's current personnel while honouring the dedication of past staff members whose commitment has strengthened the institution's legacy.

Founded in 1950, Maldives Immigration began its journey with the issuance of the Maldivian Pass—a travel document introduced to promote trade relations between the Maldives and Ceylon (modern-day Sri Lanka).

By 1964, the first Maldivian passport was introduced, streamlining overseas travel and opening new avenues for international engagement. More recently, the adoption of second-generation e-passports in 2016 has underscored the agency's commitment to modernisation and efficiency, bringing greater security and convenience to citizens.

Today, Maldives Immigration serves as the government authority overseeing visa processing, residency management, and border control operations. Its functions remain critical to national security and the facilitation of global interactions.
