The new school under construction in the second phase of Hulhumale’ will be completed by the end of this year and will be ready to accept students for the next academic year, the Ministry of Education has said.
Currently, only Salahuddin School teaches from Grades 1 to 10 in Hulhumale' Phase II, making it difficult for the increasing number of residents to get placements at the school. Many parents have to travel long distances to take their children to schools in Phase I or Male' City.
In a bid to address the shortage, the government in December last year broke ground for the new school in Hulhumale' Phase II. The school will be built with 54 classrooms to accommodate 1,700 students from Grades 1 to 10.
The Ministry said the construction of the new school is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year, and will be ready to accept students by the start of the new Academic year in January 2026.
Government has plans to build around seven schools in Hulhumale’ to address the placement shortages.
