Policy Established to Provide Lifetime Allowances for November 3 Heroes and Martyr’s Families

The Ministry of Defence has introduced a policy to provide lifetime allowances to the families of soldiers martyred during the 3 November 1988 coup attempt, and those who have been awarded medals for bravery and excellence shown during the attack.

It is a presidential pledge of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu to honour 3rd November heroes by providing financial support for martyr’s families and medal recipients.

In line with this pledge, the President has decided to provide a special allowance in a sustainable manner to the families of soldiers martyred on 03 November attack, and to those who have been awarded the Medal for Exceptional Bravery and Medal for Bravery for their extraordinary courage shown in the war.

According to the policy issued by the Ministry of Defence, the families of the soldiers who were killed in the November 3 war will be given lifetime allowances. It identified eligible family members as the parents, children and widow of the deceased soldier. The policy states that each surviving family member of a soldier who was martyred in the November 3, 1988 war will be paid USD 584 per month for the rest of his lives.

The rule also details the allowances to be paid to those who have been awarded medals for their extraordinary courage on November 3, 1988.

The recipients of the Huravee Gold Medal, or the Medal for Exceptional Bravery will be paid a monthly allowance of USD 584 for life, while those who have been awarded the Huravee Silver Medal, or the Medal for Bravery, will be paid a monthly allowance of 519 for the rest of their lives. Those who have been awarded the Ribbon of Bravery for the courage shown in the November 3, 1988 war will also be given a monthly allowance of USD 389 for the rest of their lives.

The policy states that the allowance for those awarded medals for their bravery in the war of 3 November 1988 will be paid for the lifetime of the recipient. If a beneficiary passes away, the family must notify the Ministry of Defence within one month.

The President reflects the President’s commitment to recognising the extraordinary bravery and sacrifice shown by the heroes of the 3 November war while defending the independence and sovereignty of the country, and the importance he attaches to promoting patriotism.
