A draft National Policy on Open and Distance Learning have been formulated, the Department of Higher Education says. The policy, which would soon be implemented, seeks to expand provision of quality and accessible higher education across the country.
According to DHE, it is based on an online education delivery model. The model is currently being practiced at the Maldives National University and some private colleges. DHE seeks to employ new technologies in providing distance education with the implementation of the new policy.
Deputy Minister of Education Azleen Ahmed described the formulation of the new policy as a huge step forward in providing quality higher education across the country. He said that DHE will work with Maldives Qualification Authority to ensure quality and sustenance of distance education.
According to DHE, the online education delivery model is successfully exercised in European and some African countries, in addition to countries in this region.
