"Aligadha Thari" winner gets hero’s welcome

Adam Naseem, winner of Public Service Media’s “Emme AligadhaThari” Quran Recitation Competition was given a hero’s welcome at his home island on Friday.

Adam Naseem was given a red-carpet welcome from his home island of Sh. Foakaidhoo Island. “Dhivehi Raahjeyge Emme Aligadha Thari” is a special programme presented during the month of Ramadan, by PSM, with the aim of promoting recitation of the holy Quran.

The winners of the programmes in the previous two years were also from Shaviyani Atoll, and were present in Foakaidhoo Island to congratulate the winner of this year’s programme. Celebrations in the island included a special function organised by the island council and a motorbike parade.

The programme, broadcast every Ramadan, was sponsored this year by Sharia-compliant insurance provider Ayady Takaful.

This was the fourth edition of the programme with each of the previous three winners earning MVR 100,000 in prize money. This year’s edition offered valuable prizes, including the prize money of half a million Rufiyaa and a full scholarship from the Islamic University of the Maldives to the winners, and Hajj and Umrah pilgrimage tours.
