The weather office forecast severe conditions for all parts of the country over the next five days.
The Maldives Meteorological Service said the southwest monsoon will bring heavy rains, strong winds and rough seas over the next week. It said the monsoon is expected to dump heavy rain in many parts of the country over the next 42 hours.
Occasional thunderstorms are also expected in central and southern regions, it said. It added that winds are expected to gust between 25 to 55 miles per hour. The weather office forecast generally rough seas throughout the next week, and urged seafaring vessels to check for latest weather updates before embarking on their travels.
