Housing Ministry prepares for Malé road development project

Final preparations are under way to commence the road development project in Malé, the Housing Ministry says.

In an exclusive interview with PSM News, Housing Minister Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said materials including pavement blocks are currently being brought in, and that work is underway to acquire special machinery required for the project. He said  that "the Ministry aims to bring in all necessary materials and equipment before the end of the month, and commence the project as soon as possible". The project will first see road surface redevelopment of Majeedhee Magu, in addition to upgrading work of the drainage system.

The Government earlier announced plans to redevelop Bodu Thakurufaanu Magu, the main road which runs around Male’ City. Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said "the road will be resurfaced with asphalt as part of the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge project". He said redevelopment of the road would be completed before the inauguration of the bridge.

According to the Ministry, the resurfacing work will initially be carried out in the Industrial Village Area.
