President Breaks Ground on New Hulhumale’ Mosque

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on Wednesday broke ground on the new mosque in the reclaimed suburb Hulhumale’ which will be equipped with a research library.

President Dr Muizzu broke ground on the new mosque being built by a private benefactor in Hulhumale’ during a ceremony with First Lady Saajidhaa Mohamed and cabinet members in attendance.

The mosque is being built with the generous assistance of Sheikh Ismail Mohamed and its construction is managed by Medina Investment. The mosque will be built on the site of the current makeshift mosque. The new two-storey mosque will be equipped with a library for Islamic researchers and students.

The solar powered mosque can accommodate about 2,000 worshippers and will become the first mosque in Hulhumale’ with a research library. The mosque is dedicated to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) wife Aisha (RA).

The benefactor is aiming to complete the mosque and open it to the public in 2026 by next Ramadan.
