MNDF launches maritime safety operation

Maldives National Defense Force Coastguard launches a special operation to ensure maritime safety, coinciding with Eid al-Fitr. A large numbers of people travel to the atolls for Eid holidays.

Under the operation, the Coastguard would inspect passenger and cargo vessels to ensure that maritime safety regulations are followed, MNDF said. The checks would include testing communications and GPS devices, it added. 

MNDF Coastguard said, the operation which began last night, would continue till tomorrow. The Coastguard also urged seafarers to be cautious of the weather conditions while travelling.
