The Student Union of Maldives National University (MNU) has won the Debate Competition 1437 organised by Dhivehi Raajjeyge Adu (DRA).
DRA, which is the main radio channel of Public Service Media (PSM), said this year’s competition was organized in collaboration with Dhivehi Language Academy.
MNU Student Union edged out defending champions Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) to win the competition. The champions were presented with a special trophy and a cash prize of MVR15,000. Ali Rasheed of MNU Student Union was named the best debater.
This was the 10th debate competition organised by DRA.
Last night, PSM announced that the competition will be broadcast on TVM starting next year.
6 teams participated in this year’s competition.
Chief Judge of the Drug Court Abdul Hameed was the guest of honour of the closing ceremony held on Wednesday. At the ceremony, he spoke on the importance of DRA’s long-running debate competition in order to promote Dhivehi language and the art of debate.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Managing Director of PSM Mohamed Ikram Abdul Latheef said PSM was working to produce more programmes in collaboration with Dhivehi Language Academy to further promote Dhivehi language.
