Land reclamation begins in Himmafushi

Land reclamation work commenced in Himmafushi Island of Kaafu Atoll on Tuesday. The project will see the reclamation of a total of 21.6 hectares of land from the southern side of the island.

According to the Housing Ministry, the MVR104 million project, contracted to the Netherlands-based Van Oord International Dredging and Offshore Contractor, has to be completed within 14 days. A revetment wall be built around the area once the reclamation work is complete, the Ministry added. 

It said the reclaimed land in Himmafushi will be utilised for residential and commercial purposes.
