RDC Awarded Contract to Construct New Dhaalu Atoll Hospital Building

The construction of the Dhaalu Atoll Hospital’s new building has been awarded to the Road Development Corporation (RDC). The construction of the new building, which will accommodate 50-beds, is set to be completed within 18 months.

The project agreement was signed by State Minister of Health Ahmed Qasim on behalf of the Ministry of Health at a ceremony held at the Road Development Corporation. Deputy Managing Director Mohamed Asbah Ali Naseer signed on behalf of RDC.

According to the Health Ministry, the new hospital building will feature a mammography unit, a dental OPG, an orthopedic theater, and private room facilities. Additionally, a training facility for the hospital’s staff, as well as for healthcare employees from other islands within the atoll, will also be included.

While Kudahuvadhoo, where the Dhaalu Atoll Hospital is located, has an airport, an emergency ER will be established to enhance emergency medical response. The hospital will also include a flu clinic and an isolation facility to ensure continuous operations during disease outbreaks such as COVID-19. Piped oxygen, medical air and suction systems will be installed in all the beds of the hospital.

The Health Ministry said the project will install a solar PV system at the hospital to reduce energy costs. The hospital will also be equipped with a powerbackup system, a waste management system, and a hospital-grade industrial laundry setup to ensure uninterrupted operations. In addition, a medical oxygen plant will be established for the hospital and other islands of the atoll.

With the establishment of the new hospital building, the space constraints at the hospital will be resolved. It will also enable the delivery of comprehensive healthcare services. The residents of Kudahuvadhoo and nearby islands will benefit from easy access to services.
