The Minister of Higher Education and Skills Development, Ali Haidar Ahmed, has emphasised the need for increased use of modern resources in teaching higher education.
The Minister made the remark while speaking at a seminar held on the National Human Capital Needs Assessment. The meeting was held to share ideas and experiences among educational stakeholders, and to highlight possible steps to strengthen future training programmes.
Speaking at the seminar, the Minister said the government aims to ensure that students who graduate from the education system are competent, skilled and disciplined individuals capable of securing long-term employment.
The Minister said that discussions among key institutions involved in the education sector are linked to the government's policy of ensuring employment for all Maldivians. The Minister noted that data had been collected from seven economic sectors across the Maldives to formulate employment opportunities policies.
The Minister further said the study identified the needs of job seekers and ways to connect them with employers. Based on these findings, the aim is to determine a long-term goal while implementing short-term measures to address immediate employment challenges.
The National Human Capital Needs Assessment is a comprehensive study of the skills and labour needs of the economy, conducted under the Sustainable And Integrated Labor Services (SAILS) project. The initiative is jointly led by the Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development and the World Bank.
