During her ongoing visit to various islands in the Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, she underscored the importance of empowering young farmers.
The primary aim of Minister Mariya's tour, according to the agricultural ministry, is to assess prevailing farming practices and to gain a comprehensive understanding of the local agricultural landscape in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll. Expressing delight over the increasing number of young individuals engaged in agriculture, Minister Mariya highlighted the sector's potential for driving economic development and ensuring food security.
Minister Mariya disclosed that the administration is formulating a number of initiatives aimed at empowering young people in the agricultural sector. "Farming is not merely a resource for generating income; it plays a crucial role in ensuring the country's food security," she remarked. "To provide further assistance to the youth and empower them, we are currently planning to implement numerous initiatives."
Acknowledging the enthusiasm and active involvement of young people in agriculture, Minister Mariya praised it as a positive indicator for the sector. She pointed out that youth participation introduces fresh, innovative ideas and modern technology, essential for the sector's advancement.
Minister Mariya inspected various uninhabited islands in the atoll, including Hulhehdhoo, Kaashihulhudhoo, and Havodigalaa. These inspections, according to the agricultural ministry, offered an opportunity to observe ongoing agricultural activities and to address the challenges faced by local farmers. Engaging with local councils, the minister also discussed potential solutions to these challenges.
