Maldives, India Reaffirms Ties as High Commissioner Presents Credentials

The newly appointed Maldivian High Commissioner to India, Aishath Azeema has reaffirmed the Maldives’ commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with India. She made the remarks after presenting her Letters of Credence to the Indian President, Droupadi Murumu at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, the Presidential Palace of India on Monday.

During the call on the President that followed the credential ceremony, President Murmu welcomed High Commissioner Azeema and congratulated on her assumption of duties as the High Commissioner of the Maldives to India. In response, High Commissioner Azeema conveyed warm greetings from President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, and people of the Maldives to President Murmu, the Government and the people of India. The High Commissioner further expressed appreciation on behalf of the Maldivian government for the unwavering support to the socio-economic development of the Maldives.

Furthermore, High Commissioner Azeema reaffirmed the Maldives’ commitment to strengthening the longstanding bilateral relations and expressed keen interest and commitment in working closely to strengthen the existing close ties between the two countries.

This year marks the 60th anniversary of establishing formal diplomatic ties. India was one of the first to recognise Maldives when it regained independence.
