Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has urged local businessmen and traders to conduct themselves with generosity and compassion in accordance with Islamic principles.
Responding to a question on the fourth forum of the 'Ahaa' series, through which the government provides direct answers to citizens' questions which was held on Saturday evening, Minister Dr Shaheem insisted that any business transaction must be fair to both sides, adding that compassion was the cornerstone of Islamic principles.
The Minister urged local businesses to be compassionate and generous to avoid unnecessary price hikes for the upcoming Holy month of Ramadan.
But he was quick to insist that showing compassion and generosity must not be at a loss to businesses.
“"The most important characteristic on which everything should be based is kindness, compassion, generosity, brotherhood, morals and helping others in need,” he said.
Minister Dr Shaheem also noted that deceit and dishonesty in business dealing is prohibited in Islam, urging everyone to show kindness and generosity ahead of Ramadan.
