Chief Justice Ahmed Muthasim Adnan on Thursday reminded judges across the country of their immense responsibility but urged judges to be fair and just in every ruling.
Speaking during the oath taking ceremony of new magistrates, the Chief Justice said judges have been entrusted with the foremost responsibility to ensure peace and stability in the country.
According to the Chief Justice, the primary responsibility of judges is to protect the interests of the state, which he said can only be achieved by working fairly as stipulated in the Constitution.
He also reminded the new magistrates of the immense responsibility and urged them to abide by their oath.
"This is a great duty and responsibility for us judges. We must continue to fulfil this responsibility in accordance with our oath,” he added.
The Chief Justice said the magistrates have to work closely with the people more than the other courts and urged them to be kind and thoughtful when serving the people.
During the ceremony, magistrates were sworn into seven different magistrate courts. They were presented with their letter of appointment by the President of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), Hussain Riza Adam.
Magistrates were appointed to judges Baarah Magistrate Court, Kendhoo Magistrate Court, Thinadhoo Magistrate Court, Maafushi Magistrate Court, Kaashidhoo Magistrate Court, Maavah Magistrate Court and Gadhdhoo Magistrate Court.
