India’s Vice President and Chairman of the Parliament’s Upper House Rajya Sabha, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar has reaffirmed India’s commitment to providing immediate assistance to the Maldives in times of need. He made the statement in a meeting with the Speaker of the Maldives Parliament, Abdul Raheem Abdulla, as part of the Speaker’s official visit to India.
Speaker Abdul Raheem is currently undertaking an official visit to India at the invitation of the Speaker of Lok Sabha, and the Chairman of the Upper House, Rajya Sabha.
During their meeting, discussions centered on further strengthening bilateral relations between both countries as an outcome of the Speaker’s visit to India. Other key points discussed included enhancing cooperation between the Parliaments of the Maldives and India, strengthening economic and trade relations, tourism and regional stability.
Vice President Dhankhar also welcomed the members of the Maldives-India Friendship Group and the Maldivian delegation, emphasising India’s unwavering commitment to maintaining and deepening friendly relations with the Maldives. He reiterated that India would always be quick to respond and extend immediate support to the Maldives whenever needed.
During the meeting, Speaker Abdul Raheem extended an invitation to the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha to visit the Maldives.
As part of his visit, Speaker Abdul Raheem also met the Speaker of the Lower House of the Indian Parliament, Lok Sabha.
