President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has nominated Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) member Ahmed Nashid, as the Vice President of the commission.
Ahmed Nashid previously served as a member of the Police Board and a former Assistant Commissioner of Police was appointed to the ACC on 26 January after his nomination was endorsed by the Parliament.
Under the recent amendments to the Anti Corruption Commission Act, President Dr Muizzu is mandated to appoint the President and Vice President of the ACC out of the five members subject to Parliament endorsement.
The Parliament during its sitting on Monday, forwarded the nomination to the Parliamentary Independent Institutions Committee for review.
Ahmed Nashid along with Abdulla Nashid were appointed to the ACC, after ACC Vice President Abdul Salaam and member Thoha Mohamed had resigned amid serious allegations of corruption and abuse of power.
