President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on Tuesday noted the rich history of friendship and collaboration between Maldives and Sri Lanka which he described as a special bond based on shared values, understanding and mutual respect.
President Dr Muizzu made these remarks in his greetings message on the occasion of the Independence Day of Sri Lanka to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Prime Minister Dr Harini Amarasuriya, the government and the people of Sri Lanka.
In his letters to President Dissanayake and Prime Minister Dr Amarasuriya, the President pointed out that the important milestone Sri Lanka has achieved marking its Independence Day, as the people of Sri Lanka showcase determination and resilience towards their national progress and unity.
He noted the increased people to people contact through greater cultural exchanges between the two countries and that as close neighbours, both countries have stood by each other through challenging and rewarding times.
The President also noted the rich history of friendship and collaboration between the two countries, and the special bond based on shared values, understanding and mutual respect.
Reflecting on the cooperation between the Maldives and Sri Lanka over the years, President Dr Muizzu also expressed his confidence that the two sides will continue working together to address common challenges and seize new opportunities for socioeconomic cooperation, as well as for regional stability, peace and progress.
