Defence Minister Highlights Police Role in President Muizzu’s Development Vision

Minister of Defence, Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon has emphasised the crucial role of the police in President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s development vision for the nation. The Minister made these remarks while speaking at the graduation ceremony for the 38th Basic Training Course for New Police Recruits.

Addressing at the event, Minister Ghassan noted that President Muizzu took his oath of Office with the commitment to shoulder the responsibilities entrusted to him by the Maldivian people, to protect the people and the society. He is also responsible for maintaining the country’s independence and sovereignty while also ensuring an economic prosperity, the Minister added.

The Minister observed that developed and economically thriving countries in the international community share key characteristics, such as independence and sovereignty, security and justice, as well as the assurance of safety for the people and their property. While it is the primary responsibility of the police to protect the people and their property, the role of the police is wider under the President’s development vision, he noted.

“Whether it means ensuring economic prosperity, or strengthening the social fabric, Maldives Police will be at the forefront of these efforts. The country’s future will be brighter with your efforts to maintain the country’s peace and security,” he stated.

Addressing the graduates, the Minister underscored that the responsibilities of the towards the people, the country, and the country’s constitution are significant. He called on the recruits to continue serving the people and be loyal to the country, and to prioritise their country above themselves.
