MPL Signs Heavy-Duty Vehicle Deal

Maldives Ports limited (MPL) on Monday contracted the acquisition of new cargo-handling equipment for the Male’ Commercial Harbour to Sany Heavy Industry Company of China.

The MVR140 million project, will see the acquisition of 22 heavy vehicles and machinery for the commercial harbour.  As per the agreement the contractor has to deliver the equipment within 3 months, MPL said.

Highlighting on efforts to upgrade the Male’ Commercial Harbour, CEO of MPL Mohamed Junaid said acquisition of new container-cranes and other equipment would assist in further improving and expediting services. Citing lack of support to expansion projects by previous managements, Junaid said the current management is working to bring about much needed development.

Speaking at the function, CEO of South Asia Region Office of Sany Heavy Industry Deepak Garg said heavy-duty vehicles and equipment manufactured by the company are noted amongst the best in the world.
