PSM Announces Cable TV Service

Managing Director of Public Service Media Ibrahim Khaleel on Tuesday announced plans to provide cable TV service across the country.

The announcement was made after PSM was awarded a nationwide rebroadcasting license by the Maldives Broadcasting Commission. The license was issued for a 10-year period.

Khaleel said that “preparations are now underway to launch the service, and we plan to broaden the service to the whole country before the end of 2017”.  The service will be provided at an affordable price, he added.

Noting that three other parties had been given rebroadcasting rights earlier, Broadcasting Commission President Mohamed Shaheeb said their services had been unsatisfactory.  He said that “with the licensing of PSM, we are assured that better services will be provided across the country”.

PSM is now seeking a partner to ride channels in Male’ region, and working to establish technical facilities to launch the service.
