A memorial service has been held on Tuesday for the late State Dignitary Mohamed Zahir Naseer. He passed away on May 24th at the age of 87. President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom attended the memorial function held on Tuesday night.
Late Mohamed Zahir Naseer's exemplary service to the Government and people of the Maldives, in diverse sectors, exceeds that of 50 years. He is most celebrated for his work in sports development. In the past 60 years he played a vital role in developing the sector by providing invaluable services to sports in the Maldives.
Speaking at the function, former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom described Late Zahir Naseer as the second father of Maldivian sports, after former President late Mohamed Ameen Didi. President Gayoom also said that late Zahir Naseer's name would be engraved in gold, for his irreplaceable service to the nation. Last night’s function was attended by Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed, some members of the Cabinet, and some members of the Parliament.
