New Findings in Nazim’s Firearm Case Revealed

One of the DNA profiles obtained from the gun seized from former Defense Chief Colonel (Retired) Mohamed Nazim’s apartment matched former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb’s DNA, police say.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Ahmed Nawaz said police have yet to find matches of other DNA profiles obtained from the weapon. Further investigations on the DNA profiles were underway when the case was sent for prosecution, Nawaz said.

Police said the new evidence has now been forwarded to the Prosecutor General’s Office. Nawaz said the breakthrough in the investigation did not prove that the firearm was planted in Nazim’s apartment, and whether Adeeb was behind it. Nawaz further said that “it is up for the courts to decide, based on the evidence, if Nazim was framed or otherwise”.

Police are investigating claims made by Nazim’s lawyers that former Police Commissioner Hussein Waheed was involved in framing Nazim, he further said.
