President Dr Mohamed Muizzu met with members of Hulhudhuffaaru Island Council, Women's Development Committee (WDC) and heads of institutions in Hulhudhuffaaru, Raa Atoll to discuss the developmental needs of the island.
The President on Wednesday arrived on the island as part of his ongoing three-day tour of several islands of Raa Atoll.
During the meeting, council members presented the community's most pressing needs to the President. Chief among these were critical infrastructure requirements, notably the space limitations at the island school and the need for dormitory facilities.
The council highlighted several urgent infrastructure developments requiring the government’s immediate attention, including coastal protection initiatives, acceleration of road development works and vital improvements to the harbour's outer breakwater.
They also brought focus to the challenges in newly populated areas, where the lack of essential utilities has created significant difficulties, stressing the pressing need for water and sewerage infrastructure in these localities.
Other concerns shared with the President include, specific requirements for enhancing the island's health centre facilities.
President Dr Muizzu assured that the concerns raised would be thoroughly addressed. Cabinet Ministers in attendance provided comprehensive updates on the government's ongoing efforts regarding the developmental matters highlighted by the council.
