President Vows to Turn Development Hopes into Reality in Rasgatheemu

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on Tuesday, vowed to turn the development hopes of the residents of Rasgatheemu, Raa Atoll into reality before the end of this year.

The President made these remarks while addressing the residents of Rasgatheemu during his visit to the island, as part of his ongoing tour of several islands of Raa Atoll.

He explained that the primary purpose behind the visits to the islands is to reassure the people that the development of the respective islands will be carried out swiftly.

President Muizzu did note that the rollout of development projects had faced major obstacles last year due to the extreme financial and economic constraints of the country.

However, he declared that the financial constraints have now been overcome, adding that efforts to fulfil the development pledges made to Rasgastheemu will begin in earnest during the year.

The President looked back at the pledges, promising to complete the Rasgatheemu harbour project, adding a new classroom and a multipurpose hall to the island’s school this year.

He also assured to build a new football ground and other sports facilities along with projects to address waste management, water and sewerage issues faced by the island and develop the main roads of Rasgetheemu.

In addition, the President pledged to solve the electricity and the lack of healthcare facilities faced by most islands across the country.

“In the coming days, the council and our Ministry will work together to prioritise these projects. Ultimately we will address the long neglected issues in the island and turn the people’s hopes into reality,” he added.

President Muizzu said he hoped to return to Rasgatheemu later this year and witness the completion of these projects.

The President, on the three-day visit, will tour the islands of An’golhitheemu, Hulhudhuffaaru, Innamaadhoo, Kinolhas, Maakurathu, Maduvvari, Fainu, Rasgetheemu, Rasmaadhoo, and Un’goofaaru.

This tour is part of the President’s pledge from 2024 to engage with local councils across the atolls, islands, and cities.

The President is accompanied by Cabinet Ministers and senior Government officials on this tour.
