President Heaps Praise on Proactive Vaadhoo Island Council

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has expressed his appreciation for Local Councils taking initiative on island development and has commended Vaadhoo Island Council for its efforts to develop the island.

The President made these remarks during the meeting with the Council, Women’s Development Committee and senior figures at institutions of Vaadhoo as part of his ongoing tour to several islands in Raa Atoll.

The Council members briefed the President on the current initiatives being carried out in the island. The members also discussed the ongoing renewable energy project on the island, stressing the need to complete the project in the near future. They further noted the issue of erosion, health centre, lack of sport and recreation facilities, as well as harbour limitations as pressing issues for the island.

The President committed to finding solutions for these challenges, specifically stating that renewable energy is a core pledge of the Administration. He said that once completed, the solar project in Vaadhoo would provide a sustainable solution for electricity needs for the island.

The Ministers accompanying the President provided updates on ongoing development projects on the island.
