Parliament Approves President Muizzu’s Nominations for ACC

The Parliament has approved President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s nominations for Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) membership.

The President nominated Ahmed Nashid and Abdulla Nashid for the two vacant positions at ACC, and submitted the nominations for parliamentary approval. During an extraordinary sitting on Monday, the Parliament referred the nominees to the Parliamentary Independent Institutions Committee for evaluation. Both nominees scored over 75 percent in the interview conducted by the Committee.

Following the evaluations, separate votes were taken on the Parliament floor for each nominee. Both Ahmed Nashid and Abdulla Nashid were approved by a majority of the members participating in the vote supporting their appointments.

The two membership positions at the ACC were vacated after ACC Vice President Abdul Salaam and member Thoha Mohamed resigned amid serious allegations of corruption and abuse of power.
