Maldives, India Reaffirm Strong Partnership in High-Level Diplomatic Talks

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Abdulla Khaleel, has held a significant diplomatic meeting with Indian High Commissioner G. Balasubramanian. This high-level discussion, held at the foreign ministry, underscored the ongoing efforts to strengthen and enhance the bilateral relations between the Maldives and India.

In the course of their discussions, Minister Khaleel warmly welcomed High Commissioner Balasubramanian, extending congratulations on his recent presentation of credentials to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu. The high-level meeting served as a platform for both leaders to reflect on the significant achievements and sustained cooperation between their respective nations, as reported in a foreign ministry statement.

The foreign ministry underscored the productive dialogue aimed at sustaining the positive momentum in the Maldives-India partnership. Minister Khaleel conveyed his deep appreciation for the unwavering support provided by the Indian government over the years, highlighting the solidarity and mutual respect that define their bilateral relations, according to the ministry's statement.

In response, High Commissioner Balasubramanian expressed his gratitude to Minister Khaleel for the warm reception and reaffirmed his commitment to bolstering the close ties between the two nations. He expressed his eagerness to work collaboratively to further strengthen the enduring relationship, as per the foreign ministry's statement.

In a social media post, Minister Khaleel shared insights from the meeting, remarking, "I had a productive first meeting with the High Commissioner today. We reflected on the enduring historical bond between our two countries and reaffirmed our commitment to advancing the close partnership that continues to bring tangible benefits to both our peoples."

Minister Khaleel conveyed his confidence in the future of Maldives-India relations, stating, "[He is] confident that the excellent relations and ties of friendship between Maldives and India will continue to strengthen during your tenure."

This notable diplomatic engagement follows the official presentation of credentials by High Commissioner Balasubramanian to President Dr Muizzu on 6 January. The Foreign Ministry expressed optimism that this meeting would serve as a catalyst for enhanced collaboration and mutual benefits between the Maldives and India.
