President Muizzu Explores Academic and Digital Collaboration with Estonia’s University of Tartu

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu met with officials from Estonia’s University of Tartu to discuss potential collaborations in education, digital innovation and environmental solutions. The meeting was held as part of the President’s official visit to Estonia.

During the meeting, the President engaged with Rector of the University of Tartu, Professor Toomas Asser, and other University Officials at the University of Tartu. The University officials provided an overview of the institution, highlighting its status as one of the leading universities in Europe with excellence in scientific research. The discussions also focused on sharing insights into Tartu's journey in adopting environmental friendly smart city solutions.

The President expressed his delight at the opportunity to visit the University. He shared his interest to collaborate with Estonia to support Maldivian cities with similar digital innovations and leverage Tartu's expertise in digitalisation and paperless governance.

Highlighting the potential for Maldivian students to study at Tartu, President Muizzu emphasised the need to train professionals in various fields such as medicine, digital sector, climate change and environmental sciences. The President inquired about scholarship opportunities and pathways for Maldivian students to pursue higher education.

In response, the University representatives welcomed the idea of hosting Maldivian students and offered information about available scholarships and potential areas of collaboration. The University officials expressed their readiness to negotiate further to establish stronger academic ties.

The meeting concluded with the President expressing gratitude to the university officials for their warm hospitality and willingness to explore future collaboration, and University officials emphasisng the importance of strengthening ties between the two nations.
