Police Recovers Stolen Goods Worth USD 1.25 Million in 2024

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has reported the recovery of over USD 1.25 million worth of stolen goods in 2024.

The numbers were derived from statistics compiled from cases reported to Male’ Frontline Policing which includes Male’ City Police, Thilamale’ Police Traffic Police, and Road Management during the year.

According to the data, a total of 1,653 stolen items valued at over USD 1.25 million were recovered. These include 206 mobile phones, 253 motorcycles, 107 electronic items, and 333 other items. Additionally, the MVR equivalent of USD 227,000 was also recovered in cash in connection with 374 cases.

The statistics revealed that over the past year, the police received 5,242 reports, including 2290 cases of theft, 2025 accident cases, 414 cases of snatching, 236 drug-related cases, and 358 physical altercations.

The statistics on investigations show that of the 9,154 reports submitted to MPS, 7,157 were registered as cases and investigated. While a total of 6,645 cases were investigated, 64 cases were forwarded to the Prosecutor General’s Office for prosecution.

The statistics also show that 1,000 individuals were taken into police custody in relation to these cases, of whom 805 people were arrested.
