BCC Announces Leasing Opportunity in 'Ihuru Bazaar'

The Business Centre Corporation (BCC) has announced the leasing opportunity for six kiosks at the 'Ihuru Bazaar' in Thoddoo, Alifu Alifu Atoll. The Ihuru Bazaar, a farmers' market, was officially inaugurated on 22 October 2024.

The market forms part of the Project for Developing Sustainable Agricultural Economy (PDSAE), an initiative spearheaded by BCC in collaboration with the Ministry of Economic Development. It was developed with the support from the Government of Japan and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

According to the BCC, the principal aim of the market is to create new opportunities for businesses within the farming and agricultural sectors. Additionally, it aspires to enhance the economic and financial standing of farmers and agricultural enterprises.

Applications are now open for the leasing of six kiosks, constructed as part of the market, to both individuals and businesses. Submissions can be made online, with the deadline set at 4 p.m. on 23 January, BCC said.

The Ihuru Bazaar exemplifies the "Farm to Plate" concept by directly connecting farmers with consumers and fostering innovation in agricultural practices. The market encompasses a single-storey building spanning 2,443 square feet and features ten kiosks, each equipped with mini-fridges and microwaves to facilitate the sale of fresh and value-added products.
