President Dr Muizzu Lauds Estonia's Warm Reception During Official Visit

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and hospitality extended to him and his delegation by the Estonian government during his official visit to Estonia.

President Dr Muizzu arrived in Estonia on Monday, following an invitation from Dr Alar Karis, President of Estonia. In a social media post, President Dr Muizzu conveyed his appreciation to President Karis and the Estonian government for their kind invitation and the warm reception.

"Thank you, President @AlarKaris and the Government of Estonia, for the kind invitation to me to undertake this historic visit to your beautiful country," he remarked. "It is indeed an honour to be here."

On Monday, President Karis formally welcomed President Dr Muizzu and his delegation. Reflecting on their meeting, President Dr Muizzu stated, "I enjoyed our pleasant meeting yesterday and the productive discussions aimed at strengthening our bilateral ties."

President Dr Muizzu highlighted the shared vision and priorities on digital governance, cyber resilience, climate change, and education, which will guide their collective efforts towards mutual progress. He also underscored the importance of solidarity and unity between small states for security, sovereignty, global peace, and sustainable development. "As you [President Karis] rightly said, solidarity and unity between small states such as ours are crucial, not only for our security and sovereignty but also for global peace and sustainable development," he added.

During their meeting, both presidents reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral relations and fostering collaborations. Discussions centred on strengthening ties and exploring opportunities in tourism, education, and climate change. President Dr Muizzu also expressed interest in knowledge exchange in cybersecurity and digital innovation.

President Dr Muizzu also praised Estonia’s expertise in renewable energy, smart grids, and sustainable technologies as valuable models for the Maldives. He discussed avenues for cooperation to enhance environmental resilience and digital development in the Maldives. Furthermore, both presidents shared their views on international security and reaffirmed their commitment to collaborate on shared priorities in the multilateral arena.

On Monday, President Dr Muizzu also held meetings with senior Estonian officials, including Minister of Education and Research Kristina Kallas and Minister of Climate Yoko Alender.

At an official banquet hosted by President Karis in honour of President Dr Muizzu, the visiting president described his historic visit to Estonia as a symbol of shared commitment to closer cooperation. He noted that the visit marked a historic milestone, being the first time a Maldivian head of state had visited Estonia, and symbolised the shared commitment to fostering closer ties through mutual understanding and collaboration.
