Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has undertaken an official visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to formalise the annual Hajj agreement. This engagement comes in response to an invitation extended by Tawfig Al-Rabiah, Minister of Hajj and Umrah for Saudi Arabia.
As reported by the Islamic Affairs Ministry, Minister Shaheem is scheduled to engage in high-level discussions with Minister Al-Rabiah during the visit. Their deliberations are expected to address matters related to the Hajj pilgrimage and other issues of mutual interest, highlighting the collaborative spirit between the Maldives and Saudi Arabia.
While in Saudi Arabia, Minister Shaheem will formalise the annual Hajj agreement between the Maldivian government and Saudi Arabian authorities. This agreement plays a vital role in guaranteeing the smooth facilitation and organisation of the Hajj pilgrimage for Maldivian citizens.
Minister Shaheem's itinerary encompasses participation in the Hajj Conference and Exhibition 2025, according to the Islamic Affairs Ministry. This event, organised by the Saudi Arabian government, will serve as a platform for discussions aimed at enhancing the Hajj experience and addressing emerging challenges. The exhibition will commence in Jeddah on Monday, featuring 280 exhibitors who will showcase their services, thereby enhancing competitiveness within the Hajj sector.
The Maldivian government prioritises the welfare and well-being of its Hajj pilgrims. According to the ministry, ensuring that pilgrims receive the highest level of service during their sacred journey remains a top priority.
In line with an electoral pledge by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, efforts are currently underway to increase the annual Hajj quota for the Maldives. The President has committed to raising the quota from 1,000 to 2,000 pilgrims during his tenure, thereby enabling a greater number of Maldivians to partake in the annual Hajj pilgrimage.
