A cruise ship carrying a large number of tourists has docked in Male’.

Maldives Association for Yacht Agents (MAYA) reported that 212 tourists arrived in the Maldives aboard Bahamas-registered Crystal Symphony. It sailed to the Maldives from Seychelles, and will depart to Sri Lanka after spending a day in the archipelago.

According to MAYA, Crystal Symphony is the fourth cruise ship to dock in Maldives during the current high season for tourism. While two cruise ships arrived on December 30, also from Seychelles, carrying a combined total of over 3,000 tourists, 12 additional cruise ships are scheduled to dock in the Maldives before the end of the season.

According to statistics by the Ministry of Tourism, over 43,000 tourists arrived in the Maldives during the first week of this year. This represents a 9.7 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

While Maldives is gaining popularity as an attractive destination for cruise ships, the number of tourists arriving via these vessels has seen a rise.
