The inaugural session of the Parliament for this year has been scheduled for 6 February, the Parliament Secretariat revealed Thursday.
The Parliament Secretariat told PSM News that preparations are now underway to hold the inaugural session for this year on 6 February as instructed by the Speaker of Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdulla.
The country’s Constitution mandates the sitting President to address the Parliament at the beginning of the first session of each year on the state of the country and present proposals for improvement.
So President Dr Mohamed Muizzu will deliver his presidential address on 6 February.
The Parliament Rules of Procedure states that once the President delivers his address, the minority leader of the Parliament must prepare and submit a response.
The minority leader’s response must be heard by the Parliament within 14 days of the presidential address.
Before the inaugural session for the year, the Parliament has scheduled two extraordinary sessions this month amid the looming deadline to fill vacancies in two key independent commissions.
