President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, during his visit to Maamendhoo in Gaafu Alifu Atoll, has stressed the critical role of stability in achieving national development, pledging that his administration would prevent any efforts to disrupt the nation's peace and harmony.
Speaking to the residential community of Maamendhoo as part of his three-day tour of the Huvadhu Atoll, President Dr Muizzu stated, "The advantages of development can only be fully realised by the people if there is stability. No entity will be permitted to destabilise the nation and undermine its peace and harmony."
Highlighting the achievements of his administration over the past 14 months, President Dr Muizzu underscored that maintaining stability and harmony has been a top priority. He reassured the public that no actions have been taken against opposition members, and none have been detained or arrested during his tenure. "I do not believe in causing harm to those who oppose my government, and I assure you that no such actions will be undertaken by my administration in the future," he stated.
President Dr Muizzu articulated his vision for national development, stressing that it requires the full support and cooperation of the people. "In this country, I will not allow politicians or others to destabilise the nation. If any party attempts to do so, I will prioritise national interest and quash any such efforts to protect our stability and harmony," he warned.
The president also spoke about his administration's housing policies, highlighting significant efforts funded by the state budget and supported by banks to address housing constraints. He expressed his hope that, by the end of his five-year tenure, every Maldivian citizen would have the opportunity to own some form of housing through the administration's schemes.
President Dr Muizzu reassured the residents of Maamendhoo of his dedication to the island’s development, highlighting his administration's policy of equitable growth across all islands, irrespective of size or population. He outlined plans for the development of the island's harbour and initiatives to provide coastal protection to areas experiencing severe erosion. The completion of the sewerage network services, initiated by previous administrations but yet to be finalised, will also be prioritised, he assured. He also announced that the road construction project for Maamendhoo will commence shortly.
The president's broader tour of the Huvadhu Atoll, which includes visits to nine islands such as Nadellaa, Vaadhoo, Fiyoari, and Hoadedhoo in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, and Kanduhulhudhoo, Nilandhoo, and Dhevvadhoo in Gaafu Alifu Atoll, underscores his administration's dedication to ensuring that all islands receive the necessary support and resources for their development.
