The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has unveiled its plans for comprehensive surveys and research in 2025, underscoring its commitment to fostering religious peace and harmony. These initiatives are detailed in the ministry’s action plan released last week. The research projects will be conducted in collaboration with the Maldives National University (MNU) and the Islamic University of Maldives (IUM), according to the ministry.
Ministry officials have identified four primary areas of focus for this year’s research efforts. One study will examine the integration of Islamic ethics and conduct within the national educational curriculum. Another will assess the shortcomings and successes of existing religious awareness programmes. A third research initiative will address societal issues, investigating the prevalence of bullying, gambling, theft, mugging, fraudulent schemes, and prostitution in the community.
Building upon the activities of the previous year, the ministry will continue its efforts to spread the religious message and enhance religious awareness, according to the ministry. This includes inviting prominent religious scholars from abroad to deliver sermons, with ongoing discussions with authorities in other Islamic countries to facilitate these visits.
Additionally, the ministry’s action plan includes organising a conference specifically for teachers of Islam and religious studies, providing them with opportunities for professional development and experience-gaining visits.
