MMPRC to Cut Spending on Tourism Fairs by 30%, Revise Marketing Strategies

The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) has announced plans to reduce its spending on tourism fairs by 30% this year and to overhaul its promotional and marketing strategies for 2025. This announcement was made by Ibrahim Shiuree, the Managing Director of MMPRC, during an interview with PSM News at a New Year’s event.

MMPRC, the premier marketing promotion board responsible for the Maldives' tourism sector, has traditionally invested heavily in international travel and tourism fairs. However, Shiuree underscored the necessity for change, highlighting that 80% of their budget had previously been allocated to these events.

"This year, we will reduce our spending by 30% and introduce a rebranded roadshow under the banner ‘Maldives Week,’ which will be highly interactive. Additionally, we plan to incorporate virtual activities and foster international collaborations. We will also launch a programme featuring international stars and global ambassadors," stated Shiuree.

In addition to the roadshow, MMPRC plans to implement numerous other activities aimed at promoting the Maldives. The agency, which plays a critical role in achieving the government’s tourist arrival targets for the year, acknowledged the support and collaboration it receives from tourism sector stakeholders.
