Maldives to Invite World Renowned Islamic Scholars to Visit This Year

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has revealed plans to invite world-renowned Islamic scholars to visit the Maldives this year.

Throughout the years, several Islamic scholars have visited the Maldives to deliver sermons and raise religious awareness.

Speaking on PSM News' “Raajje Miadhu” programme, Deputy Minister of Islamic Affairs, Sheikh Mutheeu Ismail Mohamed said that the initiative will continue this year.

He also said efforts are already underway to arrange the visit of a renowned Islamic scholar to the Maldives sometime next month.

"We are now making arrangements to bring in a prominent scholar and conduct a special program in Addu City. We are working to bring him in February,” Mutheeu said.

He said the arrangements are being made in collaboration with some civil society organisations.

Mutheeu said several of such organisations have expressed interest in collaborating with the Ministry to invite foreign Islamic scholars who are more popular among locals.

Globally renowned Islamic Scholars including Mufti Ismail Menk and Bilal Phillips have visited the Maldives in the past to conduct various religious awareness programmes. In addition to the capital Male’ region, they had delivered religious sermons in Kulhudhuffushi City, Addu City and Fuvahmulah City along with special youth oriented sessions.
