President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Madam Sajidha Mohamed have extended their New Year 2025 greetings to heads of state and governments of friendly nations.
In their message, the President and the First Lady expressed their wishes for the new year to bring positive fortune, success, and happiness. They also extended greetings to the heads of international organisations and resident diplomatic missions.
In his New Year's address to the Maldivian people on the occasion, President Dr Muizzu declared 2025 as a pivotal year for the Maldives, with numerous development projects set to commence across the country. He underscored the restoration of economic prosperity and the spread of general well-being to all citizens.
In his address, President Dr Muizzu extended his good wishes and congratulations for the new year. He outlined the country's specific set goals, highlighting a clear roadmap for transitioning to the ranks of developed nations.
The President noted that the new year presents an opportunity to set resolutions at national, community, and individual levels. He stressed the government's commitment to serving the people with sincerity, fulfilling promises, maintaining trust, and staying consistently close to the populace to find permanent solutions to problems.
Stating that the foundation of development and contentment lies in peace, respect, and affection, President Dr Muizzu encouraged every citizen to prioritise positive thinking and reconciliation as individual resolutions for the new year.
President Muizzu concluded his address by urging all Maldivians to work together toward national development with a unified goal. He affirmed that 2025 will be a year of responsible nation-building for the future of the Maldivian people.
2024 has been a year of notable decisions under the administration of President Dr Muizzu, marking it as a significant period of change for the Maldives. Among the pivotal decisions was the initiation of community rehabilitation programmes for drug abusers and the approval for developing rehabilitation centres in three regions across the country.
The year also witnessed the establishment of the Maldives Industrial Development Freezone, aimed at generating income through the re-export sector. Additionally, President Dr Muizzu amended the Tobacco Control Act, increasing the duty on tobacco products and banning the import, sale, and use of vapes and vaping devices.
