MNU Opens Submissions for Theveli International Conference

The Maldives National University (MNU) has announced the call for abstract submissions for the upcoming Theveli International Conference. This annual multidisciplinary research conference, first established in 2017, will be held from 18 to 20 August 2025.

The theme for the 2025 Theveli Conference is "Evolving Paradigms: Merging Research, Evidence, and Practice." MNU revealed that it would introduce a new feature to the conference this year: the 'Student Research Symposium.' This inaugural symposium aims to promote research and scientific writing among degree students at MNU and enhance their skills in conducting research on scientific platforms, the university said.

The Student Research Symposium will take place on the first day of the conference, 18 August 2025. According to MNU, this initiative is part of their broader effort to cultivate a research culture within the university. The keynote speeches will be delivered on 21 August 2025, concluding the event.

MNU Dean of Students, Ashia Leela Ahmed, highlighted the university's commitment to more than just preparing students for the job market. She stated, "In our efforts to instill a research culture at the university, it is essential that both faculty and students participate equally. Our objective is to ensure that both undergraduate and PhD students develop into accomplished researchers."

Ahmed also highlighted that the symposium would be organised and managed by the students themselves. This year will see students and faculty working together to organise the events, she said.

Research papers for the conference can be submitted in Dhivehi, English, and Arabic. The conference will also feature awards for 'Outstanding Paper' and 'Early Career Research.'

According to MNU, abstract submissions must be completed by 31 May 2025, with the full paper submission deadline set for 30 June 2025. Those interested in presenting at the conference must submit their presentations by 31 July 2025. Registration for the post-conference sessions will open on 5 July 2025, and participants are required to finalise their registration for these sessions by 5 August 2025.

MNU stated that the Theveli International Conference aims to spread knowledge not only across the nation but also to the wider region and global community. The conference is designed to bring together scholars and students from around the world to share their invaluable insights through the conference proceedings.
