Ministries' Responsibilities Realigned in President Dr Muizzu's Latest Reshuffle

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has restructured the responsibilities of various ministries following Thursday's Cabinet reshuffle. This decision was made under the authority granted by Article 116(a) of the Constitution of the Republic of Maldives, according to the President's Office.

According to a directive issued by the President's Office, the Ministry of Finance and Planning will now oversee land use, urban development, national development planning, and statistics—responsibilities that were previously managed by the Ministry of Housing, Land, and Urban Development.

The Ministry of Construction, Housing, and Infrastructure, formerly known as the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure, will now be responsible for formulating housing policies, including those related to social housing. The President also announced that the Maldives Bureau of Statistics, which was previously under the Ministry of Housing, Land, and Urban Development, will now operate under the Ministry of Finance and Planning.

President Dr Muizzu reshuffled his cabinet on 26 December. As part of the reshuffle, Moosa Zameer was appointed as the Minister of Finance and Planning, Dr Ali Haidhar Ahmed as the Minister of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development, Dr Maryam Mariya as the Minister of Agriculture and Animal Welfare, and Dr Abdulla Muththalib as the Minister of Construction, Housing, and Infrastructure.

The appointment letters were presented to the Cabinet Ministers at a ceremony held at the President’s Office on Thursday morning. After taking their oaths and signing the oath of office, the President met with the Ministers and urged them to structure the operations of the newly formed ministries in a way that minimizes disruption for staff being transferred, according to a statement by the President's Office.
