The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has held discussions with the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) to pursue legal action against those involved in the allocation of flats under the previous government’s Gedhoriveriyaa Scheme.
The former administration led by the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) initiated the development of 4,000 flats in Hulhumale' under the Gedhoruveriyaa Scheme. However, the project remained incomplete at the end of the term. Ahead of the conclusion of then-President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s term, the government released a final list of flat recipients. However, after a case was filed regarding the list, ACC revealed that only 20 percent of the listed recipients met eligibility criteria. Therefore, the ACC does not consider the flat recipient list to be a valid list.
On Wednesday, ACC confirmed it had commenced duty prosecution with the PGO to determine if charges can be pursued against those involved in allocating flats under Gedhoruveriyaa Scheme. The commission assured that it would complete duty prosecution and prosecute those involved as at the earliest.
The ACC has not disclosed the identities of those involved in the case. While the ACC and PGO are deciding on pressing charges, other relevant agencies are also investigating the case and taking necessary action.
