Police Conduct Awareness Programme on Securing Homes Ahead of Holiday Travels

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has urged the public to ensure the safety and security of their homes and belongings before leaving for the mid-term school holidays.

As part of efforts to promote public awareness, Male’ Police have launched an awareness campaign targeting those who are traveling for the holidays on safeguarding their property while away. As part of the programme, police officers engaged with holiday-goers gathered at the Male’ No 1 Jetty Area for their departure, and provided them with practical advise on preventive measures.

The police urged the public not to leave valuables at homes when traveling and to ensure safety measures such as securely locking doors and windows. They also encouraged entrusting the care of homes to a trusted individual.

The police also gave instructions on how to respond to incidents involving homes and possessions while away. They also provided information on ensuring the safety of personal vehicles such as motorcycles by parking such vehicles in areas under CCTV surveillance, in well-lit spaces or on busy streets. The police also recommended locking handlebars and shutters, and ensuring that keys are not left in the vehicle. They further recommended leaving a set of keys with a trusted individual.
