Govt Building Fire: Nearly Two Dozen Still in Temporary Shelters

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Thursday said that 22 people who were evacuated to temporary shelters in the devastating fire in a government building can only move back to their respective homes after the necessary repairs are completed.

The fire, which broke out last week, devastated the building housing the Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development, and the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure. The adjacent Green Building, home to the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy, was also damaged in the incident.

Following the incident, nearly two people living around the vicinity of the building were evacuated to temporary shelters.

According to NDMA, 29 people including 15 men and 14 women from three different residential buildings had to be moved to temporary shelters.

NDMA said though five people had returned back home, the remaining 22 people would need to stay at the temporary shelters for at least five more days.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident while the three ministries have been temporarily set up at the convention center, Dharubaaruge.
