Applications Reopened for Anti-Corruption Commission Membership

The President’s Office has reopened applications for membership of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Applications for ACC membership were initially opened on 8 December, following the resignation of the Commission’s Vice President Abdul Salaam, and member Thoha Mohamed. Both members stepped down after the Parliament’s Independent Institutions Committee approved their removal due to allegations of corruption and undue influence.

However, the initial announcement was nullified after the application deadline of 16 December expired. A new announcement has now been issued, with applications open until 31 December at 1200hrs. The President’s Office will accept applications on working days from 0830hrs to 1200hrs until the deadline.

The Anti-Corruption Act was recently amended, changing the policy for the appointment of the Commission’s President and Vice President. Under the amendment, the President shall appoint the President and Vice President of the Commission from among Commission members.
