Government is aiming to eliminate mother-to-child transmission of diseases like HIV, Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim said Monday.
Speaking during the ceremony to mark this year’s World AIDS Day, Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim hailed the launch of three specific guidelines for the treatment of diseases such as AIDS as a significant achievement in the health sector.
The health sector ensures that people with such diseases are being given the necessary protection, compassion and care through the system, he said.
The Minister stressed the importance of early detection of AIDS and urged people to get tested as soon as possible if they suspect the disease has been contracted. He added that such issues can only be overcome if the whole country works together as one.
Minister Nazim also announced that Maldives would be able to reach its aim of eradicating mother-to-child transmission of HIV, syphilis and hepatitis B by the end of next year.
"President Dr. Muizzu's health policy is designed to prevent diseases, unify society and ensure access to health care for all citizens. The health policy of this government is heavily shaped by Think Technically and Act Politically, in this mindset," he added.
The minister said the national health goals can only be achieved with the advice of professionals and scientists.
Pointing out the recent nationwide ban on vaping and electronic cigarettes as an important step, the Health Minister expressed hope of full cooperation from the public in such efforts for a healthy Maldives.
