Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef's spouse, Aishath Afreen Mohamed, has emphasised that empowering women is essential to build a vibrant society.
Speaking at the launching ceremony of the Empowering Women Entrepreneurs Through Digital Transformation training programme, the Vice President's spouse highlighted the role of women in business. She noted that social equality is a key policy in President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's administration, and noted the administration's efforts to increase the digital economy's share of GDP to 15 per cent by 2030, as part of its goal to classify the Maldives as a developed country.
The Vice President's spouse further noted the growing number of women entrepreneurs in the Maldives, adding that integrating IT into businesses could boost progress. While internet services are widely available across the country, the provision of services can be easily facilitated by utilising the eases to promote innovative business ventures.
Speaking on women empowerment, the Vice President's spouse said empowerment should not be applied only from an economic perspective, but as a broader initiative that would benefit the country as a whole. She asserted that women empowerment is vital to build a vibrant society.
Shedding light on women's contribution to society through empowerment, the Vice President's spouse said empowering women also leads to various social improvements.
